Four years have passed since Ameriie‘s last album ‘In Love & War’ hit stores; what’s more, it’s been double that since the singer enjoyed the taste of commercial success. And while recent years have brought promises of a “comeback”, the 33-year-old has been relatively quiet on the musical front. However, that all looks set to change if the diva follows through on her latest announcement.
Details after the jump Taking to Twitter today, the starlet – who added an additional ‘i’ to her name because “the vibration felt right” – revealed that she’s working on a sequel to 2007 LP ‘Because I Love It’. She wrote: I’m missing but I’m happy about finishing up 1 of my favorite rcds for. — Ameriie 에므리 (@ItsAmeriie). On the one hand, we’re wondering what this means for the long-touted ‘Cymatika’ album she’d been working on. Yet, on the other, we’re just glad she’s actually recording and hopeful that the material will legitimately see the light of day this time. The original ‘Because I Love It’ was an absolute ball of brilliance.
Hence, anything modelled in its retro, 80’s blueprint would be divine. In a broader sense, though, we’re still rooting for Ameriie because her narrative feels like one of unfulfilled potential. Incomplete, if you will. Indeed, on paper she has it all – voice, looks, isms, plus the ability to work a stage. Yet, industry politics have marred each and every project she’s released. Additionally, in an era where the wilder the antics/the bigger the star (see: Rihanna, Miley Cyrus), educated Amerrie – for some misguided music execs – becomes almost “boring”. Sad, as her albums are often stellar – save for the dreadful ‘In Love & War’.
She played herself with that one. But we digress. She doesn’t just have “it”, she is “it”. As such, we can only hope the public see that upon her eventual return. Your thoughts?
You need to do some research before you say s. 1 Thing is a completely original song.
Let’s not forget your queen’s 2007 Bday album is nothing but a sad copy of Amerie’s 2005 Touch album. Everything is the same: production, drums, ad libs etc. Even her style and dance moves in some of her music videos are completely the same as in Amerie’s old music videos. Go watch Amerie’s Why Don’t We Fall In Love video and then Beyonce’s Crazy In Love video?
Do you notice how Bey where’s the exact same outfit in the beginning? Go watch Amerie’s 1 Thing video and then watch Beyonce’s Green Light video and Upgrade You video and tell me you don’t see alot of similarities?
AND THEN listen to Amerie’s WHOLE Touch album and after that Bey’s whole Bday album and then tell me they don’t sound alike? I swear, y’all delusional Beyonce stans are always on other artists d. You don’t even like Amerie, what the hell you even doin here than? She’s so great, amazing.
She reminds me of Beyonce – lite. I just think she needs a stronger team. She makes great material but she needs more songs like “1 Thing” to keep it all going.
Even Beyonce knows that you have to make the pop hits in order to make critically acclaimed music later, (see: ‘4’) and I think Ameriie served it up too soon. All of her albums have been amazing though, ‘In Love & War’ just so happened to not be as good as the rest.
She needs to drop a reality show or be on R&B Divas or something to launch this comeback and give people MORE of her personality. We don’t know anything about her. Do interviews, make more appearances, and please stay on tour so that we care.
I LOVE this woman and I am so rooting for her, I just wish she would have gotten the message before 33. Everybody doesn’t have Vince Herbert behind them to come back in their 30s.
Now where is JOJO’S new album. I’m so over Blackground and their b. You know what, I’m not even gonna continue all this. It’s a waste of time! I’m just gonna have to get over the fact that when an artist comes out with something new and original, other artists that are far more succesful swagga jack the s. out of it and act like they’re the ones that came up with it. Y’all stans can continue hopping on Amerie’s d.
everytime there’s news about her instead of focussing on Beyonce’s new project. Fact still remains Amerie did it first. I ain’t even stressing, lol.

Critical reception Professional ratings Review scores Source Rating 7/10 Favorable 7.3/10 B favorable Because I Love It received wide critical acclaim from various music critics. AllHipHop.com praised the album giving it five out of five stars, stating that Amerie has the 'ability to convey excitement without sounding insane' but pointing out that 'doesn't fit neatly into any specific genre anyway, so she might as well leave the standard R&B fare to the army of standard R&B chicks available to sing them.'
Also praised the album, stating that the album 'lassoed each song, whether it required salt, sugar, heartache, delight, or any combination thereof' and further noting that 'she is the only female singer on the album, and hearing her backgrounds dance and swim around her leads is as moving as anything else in modern R&B'. Despite mixed criticism towards its ballads, praised the album's sound and called it 'R&B at its most dynamic'. Gave it a favorable review, writing 'It's no classic, but the obligatory ballads are mercifully few, allowing a series of punchy, soulpowered tracks to shine'. Lauded Amerie as 'one of the greatest singers in pop music' and wrote that Because I Love It was a 'spectacular work' because she 'catches the fleeting thrills and momentary rushes of intensity that permeate otherwise mundane days, and stretches those feelings out across four-minute songs without ever letting up.' Described the album as 'bar-raising pop' and called it a 'whip-smart collection of retro R&B that's more than '.
Tim Finney of noted that the album's 'big, risky strategic manoeuvre is a plush, post-coital riposte to 's recent electro-pop revivalism, with many of the songs here investing in a deliberately frothy eighties sound that smears together, and the ', adding that 'the danger for Amerie is that in trying so hard to clinch this new style she leaves little room to assert her own individual qualities'. Lou Thomas from called the album 'a mix of the sweat-drenched sublime and the saccharine ridiculous', while commenting that 'there's still a flavour of the percussive, filthy Washington DC Go-go sound that gives her music a satisfying and unique feel within the pop world, but at other times the sugar content will repulse all but those with the sweetest tune tooth.' Commercial performance Because I Love It was a moderate success but failed to repeat the success of previous studio albums (2002) and (2005). It failed to chart on any United States nor Canadian chart, since it wasn't released in those countries until September 30, 2008 (more than a year after it was released worldwide). It only charted on some European charts (including 's chart, where it peaked at number fifty-six) and Japanese chart, where it peaked at number thirteen. It was success in United Kingdom.
